Automatic dry extinguishing systems

Special areas exits in almost every building where the use of water as a fire extinguishing agent means may cause extensive damage, or is undesirable for other reasons. Typically, dry extinguishing systems are used to protect computer areas, transformer rooms etc. for such special locations, an alternative to sprinkler exists in dry extinguishing systems, using either dry chemical or gas (CO2 or FM200).

CO2 works on the principle of oxygen exclusion in an area and is therefore dangerous for people. It is necessary to evacuate the area before the gas is released.

FM200 functions on the principle of breaking the chain reaction which keeps a fire going. It is very effective even in a low concentration, and is not hazardous to breathe. Nevertheless, it is advisable to evacuate the area before, or while the gas is being released.

Dry extinguishing systems have their own control unit which communicates with the main fire alarm panel. It automatically releases the extinguishing agent after an appropriate delay period, and if certain conditions are met.
