Automatic sprinkler systems

Automatic sprinklers are particularly effective for life safety in hotels, hospitals, administrative buildings etc because they apply cooling and extinguishing water directly to the source of a fire, and avoid the spread of open flame fires and heat. Sprinklers release their water flow automatically if a certain temperature at the sprinkler head is exceeded and by means of flow switches, notify the fire alarm system of the existence of a fire. Because the sprinkler heads are released by the thermal effects of a fire, they do not respond to the incipient stages of fire. It also has to be taken into consideration that considerable water damage to the building and its furnishing and equipment may result. The combination of both systems fire detection system and sprinkler system will allow early warning, and a fire may thereby be extinguished before the sprinkler system comes into operation. Should the manual fire combat action be unsuccessful, then the sprinklers will take over.
